Store up treasures in heaven

by JoAnn on Mar.12, 2010, under Did You Know?, Reflections

The BibleIn the Old Testament, God gives the freed Israelites many directives for living. Many of these laws that seem strange to us were actually instructions for the well-being of the people. The Israelites had been slaves for hundreds of years so it follows that they wouldn’t have a clue how to take care of themselves or set up a proper society.

Some of these laws pertained to the treatment of the poor among them. Throughout the Old Testament God commands His people to be generous, treat the poor with justice and respect, and to give generously not grudgingly. (Deuteronomy 15:10-11 Deuteronomy 15:4) (continue reading…)

What is lukewarm?

by JoAnn on Mar.08, 2010, under Reflections

‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16

Praise So we know being lukewarm is a dangerous attitude when it comes to God. But what are God’s standards of lukewarm? How can we tell if we are lukewarm Christians attending lukewarm Churches? In America we have been so spoiled by freedom of religion that we do not have an inkling of the meaning of persecution. We face very little hardship of any kind. (continue reading…)

Eternal Destinies Are At Stake

by JoAnn on Feb.07, 2010, under Evangelism

‘And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”’ Mark 16:15

It is not politically correct anymore to spread the Gospel. The popular belief that all spiritual paths lead to God has grown and to say that Jesus is the only way is seen as intolerant even hateful. Yet, accepting these popular notions of the world is the same as denying Christ. All around us are those headed for a Christless eternity. Many are lost and hopeless and do not know the only answer lies in Jesus Christ. (continue reading…)

Put on God’s Armor

by JoAnn on Feb.05, 2010, under Bible verses

‘For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.’ 2 Corinthians 10:4-6

2 Corinthians 10-4

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” Ephesians 6:10-18

Fix Your Eyes on Things Unseen

by JoAnn on Feb.05, 2010, under Did You Know?

“As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.” 2 Corinthians 6:1. It is better not to even have heard the Gospel, than for someone to hear and reject it. (continue reading…)
