Stand in the Gap

‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16

So we know being lukewarm is a dangerous attitude when it comes to God. But what are God’s standards of lukewarm? How can we tell if we are lukewarm Christians attending lukewarm Churches? In America we have been so spoiled by freedom of religion that we do not have an inkling of the meaning of persecution. We face very little hardship of any kind. (continue reading…)

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

Blake Coffee’s Church Whisperer blog has some excellent thoughts about what Christ intended our Churches to be.

“But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief.
Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise,
and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire,
and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.” 2 Peter 3:10

It is shocking how complacent many of our American Churches have become. Many of the new mega Churches have gained extraordinary popularity by preaching a feel good religion that seems to lack any real substance or sound doctrine. Please correct me if I am wrong, but many of these seem to portray God as a gentle, kindly old man who tolerates all human failing and just wants us all to have immense blessings in the form of all the material things our hearts desire.
